Buoyed by last week’s non-defeat, Nomads elected to bat first on the artificial pitch at Hammerwich on a pleasant afternoon. Gardner was run out early doors by a quick low throw from the deep. This brought Heslington and Fearon together who put on the first significant partnership (45) of the innings, establishing momentum  with a run rate of 4 an over. Then Hutton and Moss upped the tempo adding a partnership of 50, Hutton hit two powerful 6’s to backward square as well as cover drives for 4. Moss batted stylishly throughout, showing good shot selection on his way to 53 runs.  Collins (19) and Westwood(14) took the innings on to 221, Nomads best score of the season so far. Pick of the Sunseekers bowlers was Jennings who ended with 43 for 5.

The accurate line and length bowling of Westwood and Heslington gave the batsmen few scoring opportunities in the first 12 overs and meant that Nomads could set attacking fields. The left handed Antcliffe was caught second slip off Heslington (a fielding change suggested by Hughes a ball earlier), Westwood’s research into seam bowling was paying off. Only Talyor showed resistance as wickets tumbled at the other end. Hutton bowled with pace and George took a sharp catch off his own bowling. Stanley‘s net practice bore fruit when he bagged two wickets from a tidy spell of bowling. The second of these saw Taylor eventually fall to a superb running catch by Moss at long off.. A good overall team performance saw the Nomads post their first win of the season.
