Heslington secures Fantasy trophy
Pete Gardner top scored with 845 points in the final week to ensure the wooden spoon was avoided after spending the whole summer at the bottom of the table.
Mark Heslington won the coveted title (just!) after a poor final week but managed to hold off the terrier like Jennett who finished just 30 points behind in second place. Mal Pinfield confirmed third spot, a position he had held for most of the competition.

Barton game called off
The match was cancelled at Barton's request. They could only muster 6 players. The forecast was not great and there had been heavy overnight rain anyway.

Nomads disappoint against nine man Walsall Health
The Nomads fell behind in the Captain's curry stakes after another disappointing display against Walsall AHA. Nomads were inserted and could only muster 128 for 8 off their 40 overs on a damp, slow outfield. Walsall AHA reached their victory target for the loss of just five wickets. With only nine men they were effectively 7 wickets down but Nomads failed to drive home the advantage either with the bat or the ball. The Nomads battled bravely in the field and the winning runs were hit with only two balls to spare but that was cold comfort as the Nomads slipped to their third straight defeat. MVP went to Akin Hussein who put the disappointment of his innings behind him to give a superb display in the field. Match Report

22nd August 2004

April Showers back on top.
Paul Fearon top scored with 1,821 points, to swap places with Chris Rowland and move back into fifth place. (I must get a picture of the new 12 stone PJF rather than the 13 and a half stone one!) Mark Heslington was the second highest weekly scorer and bounced back to regain the league from Ray Jennett.

No Week 2 Fantasy Cricket results
There were no week 2 results in today's Telegraph. This smacks of a move to scupper people running their own fantasy cricket competition and 'piggy backing' from their results. Nomads Night Out
The annual Nomads Christmas tour of Lichfield hostelries got off to a slow start on Friday, with only Ross, Dave and the Chairman appearing at The Scales before 8pm. A sudden surge at around 8.20 saw the numbers swelled by 33% with Mal's arrival after a hard day around Cambridge. A couple of quick ones saw him catching up and overtaking the Captain who was foregoing his usual blackcurrant for a nearly acceptable Foster's. The gallant four tore out into the balmy evening for a brief sojourn in the Earl of Lichfield, before advancing on Sammy's. Unfortunately the music there was far too loud for polite conversation and even Sri Lankan bowlers would have had difficulty making themselves heard, so it was straight on to Joot, where the chairman's glasses misted over even more with the amount of skirt he couldn't see. Fortunately he was hauled out before he tipped over the cradles in his eagerness and it was on to the familiar surroundings of the Queen's. Here was Willis, waiting patiently for the intrepid few, having realised well before that it is easier to arrive at the finishing post without doing the journey. Shortly the hobbit-like figure of Pete Gardner struggled in from the depths of Mordor (otherwise known as awards evening at school) and joined in the fun. Last orders came and went and Gardner, barely exhausted (has he been feasting on Lembas?), led Ross and Dave to The Prince of India for the traditional end-of-evening curry, where a disappointing six out of ten was awarded for the fare.
Only one question remains..... where were all the Nomads on an evening brought forward from the more likely next weekend as so many "couldn't make it" then.
Happy Christmas to all our readers and I'm sure you're looking forward to 8pm on the second Thursday in January (8th?). Be there early to avoid the disappointment of a two minute batting slot but plenty of bowling practice to get those arm muscles working and to ease off those extra Christmas kilos in convivial surroundings. With a bit of luck the ladies keep fit class will be there too!
