1997 Report

The 1997 season can be described as a losing one with only four victories achieved and fixtures curtailed after the August Bank Holiday. A notable performance at Meridan and a poor batting display against Gnosall were the two extremes in a summer when basically the Nomads bowling struggled to contain the oppositions batsmen and the batting did not achieve results despite favourable situations.

As appears to happen all to often the batting responsibilities are left in the hands of the very top order, in particular P Gardner who again amassed 600 runs for the season and R Ings whose limited appearances still produced an innings of 121* which was rewarded with the performance of the year trophy.

It could be said the bowling suffered through injuries but this does not hide the fact that only M Heslington with 34 wickets, including three 5 wicket hauls and D Cartwright with 17 wickets achieved any sort of distinction.

Fielding was consistent with J Hoddy taking 4 catches against Stafford 3rds being the Highlight.
