LICHFIELD NOMADS CRICKET CLUB

1998 Report

Lichfield Nomads Cricket Club made moderate progress during the season. Positively, membership difficulties of the past where not evident as Captain P L Gardner was able to chose from 16 regular players. This was the year the Nomads toured overseas for the first time. Our game against Mechelen Cricket Club in Belgium was drawn with P J Fearon batting well and M A Heslington taking 4-40.

On the whole, Individual performances appear more noteworthy than overall team efforts with honours this year going to Paul Fearon. With the bat he scored 509 runs at 33.93 and featured in 3 century partnerships and 2 fifty partnerships. He scored his maiden century, 105, against Meriden C C, a game the Nomads unfortunately lost. He also bowled well taking 23 wickets at 22.43, but his performances with the bat earned him the Doug Adam trophy for this year. Gardner again finished top of the batting averages with 679 runs at 39.94, scoring 120 against Barton C C, he also featured in 4 century partnerships this season. Heslington finished top of the bowling averages taking 33 wickets at 17.91, 5-30 against Sutton Coldfield 3rds being the highlight. He also contributed 385 runs at 22.65, featuring in 2 century partnerships and carrying his bat twice. M E R Pinfield again batted well scoring 296 runs at 24.67, his highest was 54 against the Sunseekers of South Derbyshire. D Forster contributed well with both bat and ball in his first season. P Blackburn bowled well during the season taking 14 wickets at 18.43, 4-40 his best at Woore. K Greaves arguably played his best season for the club so far with a keen performance in the field and consistence with the ball taking 10 wickets 20.40.
