LICHFIELD NOMADS CRICKET CLUB

1999 Report

The Nomads have continued their healthy improvement both on and off the pitch. New captain Akin Hussein produced 10 victories and used all his available resource to good effect. Games at Norton CC and Glebelands were notable and the season finished well with 3 wins from the last 4 matches. The first "Stewert Ellison Trophy" match between ourselves and Friary Grange CC was unfortunately abandoned after 18 overs due to rain and the club again played 2 games in Belgium on the May bank holiday.

The batting included some notable performances on the back of a good and settled top order. Gardner and Heslington at Glebelands achieved a record 181 for the first wicket. Individual performances for the season include Gardner 573 runs at 31.83, Heslington scoring 484 runs at 24.20 and Pinfield scoring 394 runs at 23.18. Pinfield at Prestatyn CC scored 45 runs in very difficult conditions to win the performance of the year award. Heslington at Mechelen CC achieved a personal best of 80 not out in sweltering weather. Fearon also contributed well in the top order with his strong hitting with good middle order back up from Forster, Hoddy and Shohet.

Hussein used a varied opening bowling attack to good effect, notably at Norton. " Nomad of the year" Heslington finished the season with 35 wickets at 12.69 with Forster taking 16 wickets at 19.00. Hoddy produced a good improvement on last season to finish second in the bowling averages taking 17 wickets at 13.53 and the reliable Greaves provided 14 wickets at 20.86. Fearon again contributed well with the ball, as did the improving Higginson.

The general improvement in fielding also helped the performance on the pitch, with Higginson exceptional.
