Lichfield Nomads C.C. v Martins

Victory at last for Nomads

Nomads played their first match at Walsall against new opposition. Nomads won the toss and elected to bat. Gardner and Terry got off to a good start, pushing the score along without losing wickets. But after Gardner was out and two new bowlers on, the runrate fell. Bastable had a bizarre run out, without scoring, when his boot came off. Terry was bowled trying to push the scoring along but this saw the in-form batsmen, Rolfe and Brannigan in. Rolfe was not quite feeling at his best but the scoring accelerated until unfortunately Brannigan was run out hesitating over a sharp single. Westwood and Pickering were out cheaply but Mahmood made a quick 10, but it was Lee who pushed the score up to a respectable total hitting out against the 3rd change bowlers to score an excellent 33no.

Dan Lee's knock provided a basis of hope for a Nomads victory provided the bowlers could perform.

Dan Lee again raised Nomads' hopes by taking 2 early wickets. Mahmood also bowled well from the other end to claim a well-deserved wicket. Bowling changes saw Westwood strike early in his spell and he was unlucky not to claim a second when a catch was spilled at square leg. Sam Bryars took two very important wickets of batsmen who had played themselves in. Jaz, who had come in at 10 due to injury, looked very capable and the score inched towards the Nomads' total. Hoddy, who had been held back to finish off the tail, chipped away at the other batsman and finally claimed the last wicket when the batsman stretched to reach a ball well wide of the off stump and played on.

A close game against sporting opposition saw Nomads first win of the season with Dan Lee earning a well-deserved MVP.
