Darley Abbey v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads claim second victory in a row

Nomads travelled over to Darley, for what is usually our last match of the season, resting the stalwarts Gardner and Hoddy. However the team looked strong with the return of Hutton and the continued presence of Lee. Nomads elected to bat and the Darley openers bowled few loose balls restricting the run-rate to no more than 3 per over. Terry was caught on 8, but, his replacement Hutton was looking good until a ball, which the batsmen claimed was going down leg swung to take off the off bail after flicking a pad. Barker looked in fine form and seemed set for a hard-earned 50 but misjudged a pull and was caught. Ghosal misjudged the line and was bowled and Stanley struggled hard for his 3. Rolfe managed 5 before being caught. The team expected a few runs from Lee and Fearon but both were out without scoring. Fortunately Darley took off Sterman who must have been underperforming with 3 wickets from 3 overs conceding no runs. Basri, Cartwright and Sam Bryars were then able to take the score over the 100 mark, said runs were to prove very valuable along with the contribution of ever-reliable Extras..

The agreement to play 12 players seemed to help reduce the run-rate along with the slow, tricky conditions, so Nomads were not too disheartened by our low score.

Our 2 opening bowlers, Lee and Hutton, made good use of the conditions and ripped through the top order, reducing Darley to 24-6 off the first 10 overs, helped by two superb catches from Ghosal. After 12 overs, the captain decided to give 2 other bowlers a go, and Sam Bryars and Paul Fearon continued the good work bringing the innings to an end after a mere 17 overs.

An excellent performance by Nomads, the only down side was that our regular pub at Darley, the Abbey, was shut.
