Lichfield Nomads C.C. v Walsall Nomads

Nomads lose to Nomads

As might be expected of a game between Lichfield Nomads (LN) and Walsall Nomads (WN), the venue was Cannock Cricket Club. The sun was shining, and the bar was open. A perfect setting for an evening game. Batting first, LN scored 12 without loss in the first two overs. The early momentum was checked by a double wicket maiden. A partnership of 43 between Loxley and Fearon pushed the rate above 8 per over. Loxley specialised in losing the ball.
Scoring continued at the same rate but wickets continued to fall. 94 for 6 after 12 overs meant that some rebuilding was required. Sadly, this did not happen. The innings subsided to 111 all out with 16 balls left. Extras top scored with 30.
Early wickets were clearly the key as WN started their reply. 3 for 1 after one over became 12 for 2 after two overs. Optimism was rising. The WN middle order played risk free wickets and kept wickets in hand. At the halfway point they were 52 for 4. Hutton bowled his four overs for only 13. Once his spell was finished the scoring rate accelerated. A particular highlight was a running catch by Fearon.
A couple of late wickets gave false hope that the jaws of defeat might be avoided. A couple of boundaries saw WN triumph with, strangely, 16 balls ball left.
